Wonder Woman | Movie Review Monday

I went to go see this movie on Saturday. I didn’t really know much about Wonder Woman before seeing this movie, so I was happy to learn that this is an origin story. This movie starts on the island of Themyscira, which is the home of the Amazons. We meet a young Diana, who is desperate to begin her training with the other Amazons. Diana’s mother is hesitant to let her start this training, which gives the impression that there may be more going on. We slowly learn more about Diana as the movie progresses. We learn about the story of her birth; her mother tells her that she wished for her so much, and wished for Zeus to bring her to life. The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood | Review

I’d had this book sitting on my TBR pile for over a year, and the arrival of the television show motivated me to get off my butt and read it. I’d heard so many good things about this book from other people, and so many good things about Margaret Atwood in general, that I figured this needed to happen. I really enjoyed this book. Now, this is definitely not the kind of book that will make you happy while reading it, it wasn’t that kind of enjoyment. This book is supposed to make you uncomfortable; the point is to show people what humans are capable of. This is a dystopia that feels like it could actually happen in the future. We are never told what the year is, which is why it’s so terrifying.
